The Lakeland Broncos organization is focused on providing a safe and enjoyable sporting environment for our children. After all, we're parents, too, and our kids play. Today, most of the current safety conversation about football centers on concussions, due primarily to some high-profile incidents in the NFL. Consequently, the concussion spotlight has been pointed, unfairly, at football in general.
“Most concussions don’t even occur in competition sports. Football concussions are a small percentage of total concussions."
-Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner
Frankly, football is no more dangerous regarding concussions than other popular sports. Basketball, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, and even flag football present similar opportunities for this type of injury. Furthermore, activities such as snowboarding, skiing and skateboarding are often cited as major causes of concussions, and yet parents willingly allow their children to participate, often without any supervision.
The difference is that in our program the children are always supervised. Additionally, we spend a great deal of time and energy ensuring our coaches are trained in injury-prevention techniques and that our equipment is tested and effective.
The bottom line is this: no competitive sport can be completely safe, but the Lakeland Broncos organization is committed to taking any and all steps necessary to ensure the safety of our children. Safety is our mission.
